Stories you’ll struggle to find more about in the media (UK)

casketscratcher:

  • A blind man was set on fire after being asked about his disability.
  • A young man was charged with setting his dog on a woman with Cerebal Palsy yesterday. He told the dog “good boy” when it tore off her ear.
  • A “catalogue of blunders” and “prejudiced assumptions” by NHS staff led to the death of a disabled woman. According to an official government enquiry, 24 disabled people are killed each week due to prejudiced assumptions by medical staff.

You’ll struggle to find much about these in the main media. Disabled people are being attacked here every day, purely for being disabled and it is very rarely reported outside of local papers.

Sometimes I tolerate the TW fandom, but most times I remember it’s littered with juveniles, creepers and sheep. Is this a thing that needs to exist. A blog dedicated to prying on and breaking down the private lives of the TW cast (and by that it obviously means Dylan and Hoechlin).

damn, tw fandom is really desperate to achieve the lows set by spn fandom

what things happened in the lok fandom

nothing the fandom did for once - we just found out that nick like most corporations are sexist fuckheads who almost didn’t allow lok to go into production simply because korra is a girl

are you. fucking. kidding me right now

No, unfortunately :(

/throws things everywhere

for everyone still asking about it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKhAHeLKsSY

the part we’re talking about is at 17:55

how is this surprising?

I thought we knew this re: action figures of the girls of AtLA

OR LACK THEREOF.

Uncontrollable rage. Instead of making Korra as good as ATLA they gave a weak ass romantic plot, had so much stupid retcons, and basic sexist thinking that wasn’t present in ATLA and now they aren’t even renewing it even though the fandom has been loyal as hell.

Girls of Color can’t have shit apparently

Cleared of Charges of Setting Off a School Explosion, Florida Honor Student Heads to Space Camp
“The explosion struck a chord with 18-year NASA veteran Homer Hickam, a former lead astronaut training manager for Spacelab, and later for the International Space Station.
In the late 1950s, Hickam had a brush with law enforcement for allegedly starting a forest fire. State police came to his high school and led him and his friends away in handcuffs, but his high school physics professor and school principal came to the rescue, clearing him of wrongdoing.
Back then, schools did not have zero tolerance rules. Kids could make their mistakes without the threat of a criminal record, or serving time in jail.
“I couldn’t let this go without doing something,” Hickam said. “I’m not a lawyer, but I could give her something that would encourage her. I’ve worked closely with the U.S. Space Academy, and so I purchased a scholarship for her.”

YES.

So Stephen Lunsford (Matt in season 2 of Teen Wolf) is kind of an asshole.

[Rape culture/’accused of being a rapist’]

[did you know that smiling is only 100% because you’re happy and also looking at a woman undressing after she says no isn’t threatening at all]

[The post that started it all]

yeah this one doesn’t even need me to paraphrase it — that’s a direct quote

No wonder he was so excellent at playing a creepy misogynist stalker. He’s in character 24/7!

The Original Broadway Cast of Disney’s The Lion King

Mufasa :: Sarabi :: Young Nala and Simba :: Simba :: Nala:: Rafiki :: Pumba and Timon :: Zazu :: Scar :: The Hyenas (Ed, Shenzi, and Banzai)

Probably the best costume designs for a musical I have ever seen. The combination of the puppetry along with their facial makeup and outfits is stunning.

MY FAVORITE BROADWAY SHOW! I cried real tears it was so beautiful.

This is the best thing I’ve seen.

Ahh this show was like one of THEE best ive seen

My dad took me to see this when it was first on Broadway.

I was blown away.

Till this day I am still in awe. This was a spectacular show and I don’t even like Broadway like that.

Woolwich: a knife crime, not an act of war →

What happened in Woolwich was horrific. However, there’s a real danger of overreacting. What we witnessed was a street murder, a frenzied knife attack carried out by two pathetic individuals claiming, in what sounded like South London accents, to be acting on behalf of aggrieved Muslims everywhere. It wasn’t a million miles away from those occasional senseless knife attacks by clinically insane people who claim to be Napoleon or Jesus Christ. Yet it’s being treated by politicians, the police and the media as an act of war, a terrifying challenge to Western civilisation. This elevation of an opportunistic murder to the level an all-out assault on our way of life graphically demonstrates how society itself can unwittingly do terrorists’ dirty work for them, by aggrandising their actions and amplifying their impact on politics and everyday life.

It really does grate at me how CNN/BBC was quick to refer to this as an “Afghanistan like situation” or something when one person died but the constant killing of thousands of Pakistani and Yemeni civilians is just collateral damage.

Not even when the first reports of reprisal attacks on a mosque by a man with knives was deemed ‘terrorism’. So fucking transparent.
